In the Winter Issue, Jerry Harrison makes sense of the Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense documentary, 40-plus years after its release. Harrison recently went on a speaking tour, presenting the film in its high-tech restored format and doing a Q&A with devotees of his band. In this Goldmine issue, he expands on the making of the movie and its relevance today.
“This was a far more crafted show than most had,” admits Harrison. "For example, there’s a sense of a natural narrative of going from small to big, you know, simple to complex. And [director]Jonathan Demme did a great job of capturing what we really did every night. He didn’t change what we did, but he also recognized how interesting each person in the band was, and he introduced each person to the audience."
